Bio:

Quotes:

“Now, if you’ll consider the second law of anima channeling, you’ll see that the situation I’ve proposed is quite literally ridiculous. Clearly, a one cannot redistribute the available anima within a Well without first causing a massive alteration to the flow of anima across the rest of our world. So you see… excuse me, miss, but is there a reason you keep scribbling my name all over that notebook of yours?”

History:

Ravi was born in Marcus, the son of a Marcusite military officer and a pirate. His mother, Nara Vane, was a successful medic-general. His father, Dirk Wachter, was a former sea pirate who retired and became a chef after meeting with Nara on a particularly convoluted exchange involving a pirate assault on a vessel of the Marcusite navy, a sudden hurricane, a mysterious island in the Moria Sea, and the resurrection of an ancient Shuran demon.

Ravi was a clearly gifted child. His mother insisted he be given the greatest possible education, and as such, he was sent to live in Gandharva where he attended the Aeon Home Academy and was taken under the wing of Praetor Tien, the head of Animist Study at Aeon Home. Tien noticed the Wildcard talent in the young Wachter boy, and educated him personally in the ways of animism, showing him how to utilize his gift through esoteric rites and practices. Ravi excelled, and was considered among one of Tien’s top pupils. He was so favored that upon his graduation from the Academy, he was offered a professorship.

Ravi had personally begun to tire of life in the Academy, but his mother gave him an ultimatum- take the job, or move home and be married off to the daughters of one of her subordinates. Given the choice, he began teaching Animist Theory 101 at the Academy.

Ravi enjoyed teaching, but was consumed with a great thirst for knowledge that could not be satisfied by mere libraries and lyceums. At the age of 24, Ravi took a brief hiatus and began to explore the continent of Shura. He wandered the world, making his way by applying his knowledge of the world around him and his skills as an animist to help those in need. One day, he discovered a massive library within the catacombs far, far beneath the under-city of Gandharva. Within the catacombs, he found an ancient library, which was apparently untouched, and as far as he could determine, predated even the First Age.

Ravi spent three months in the library. During this time, he found it had belonged to an ancient naga sage by the name of Bali. Bali was exiled from ancient naga society for studying a subject defined only as “the words that cry out so that they should not be spoken aloud”. After some study, Ravi deciphered much of the sage’s work, and discovered that he had been working on a translation of an ancient language that was said to be spoken by the Elder Ones themselves. This language was the language that was said to make up the universe itself, and Bali believed that he could change the world by re-describing it in this language. Ravi came to find that Bali had entrusted his findings to a mystical tome called the Liber Nomina, a cosmic dictionary entailing the syntax of the sacred language. Ravi began to educate himself, and within a time, he had master the rudiments of the tongue.

Since then, Ravi has devoted his time equally between three things- further unlocking the secrets of Bali’s work, spending every free moment out of the Aeon Home and using his talents to help those in trouble and explore exotic locations around the world, and introducing freshmen students to the complexities of beginner animism.

Ravi has written several books over his time: The Memory of the Soul: A Study on Time and Perception, A Bottle Made of Water: A Journeyman’s Approach to Animist Theory, Man and the Subconscious: The Connections between Anima and the Arcane Arts, and Shura and the Dark Ages: A History. Both A Bottle and Shura and the Dark Ages are now used as official textbooks at the Academy, and his other works are renowned across scholastic communities the world over.

Personality and Relationships:

Ravi is a pleasant natured man. He has an insatiable curiosity that lies at the heart of all he does. Even as a small child, he has been fascinated with understanding how the world around him works. It is this very curiosity that compels him to live the life of a part-time adventurer. Ravi is considerate but practical, and believes that as long as no one is hurt, there is no reason to avoid the investigation of a subject or theory. In fact, he strongly believes in the importance of scientific inquiry, and is unafraid to go to great lengths to gain the information needed to better understand any given situation.

While Ravi gains a sense of fulfillment from helping others understand things, he feels unsuited to be a teacher, as he feels he could never be happy with the sedentary lifestyle of the average professor.

Ravi is somewhat intimidated by women, primarily due to the overbearing nature of his mother. He is capable of forming strong working relationships and friendships with women, but if he comes to find a women is attracted to him, he reacts with nervousness and avoidance. Unfortunately, due to his boyish personality, friendly attitude, and physically fit body (at least in comparison to other professional scholars of his age), he is a popular crush among young female students.

Ravi is comfortable in social situations, and could be described as being ambiverted. However, if given the choice, he prefers to be alone with a book or out on a walk.

Ravi and his mother do not get along. He feels that Nara is overly involved in his life, and is easily intimidated by the women. Furthermore, he feels his mother is far too overprotective and too often is guilty of projecting her own wishes and desires onto him. He and his father enjoy a healthy relationship, but they do not see each other often. Both of his parents tend to try and spoil Ravi to the point of discomfort, which usually results in him spending as little time as possible with them.

Ravi has fond memories of his mentor, Tien. He was also close friends with Tien’s daughter, Rosalind. Although he doesn’t know it, Rosalind has been carrying a torch for Ravi since they were both 14 years old. Ravi was also close friends with his former Academy roommate, Corin Duvall. Actually, to say they had a close friendship would be an understatement.

Ever since mid-adolescence, Ravi has been dealing with an unrequited love for Corin. Although male-male love is far from taboo in Gandharva, Corin had never expressed any interest in men- quite to the contrary, he often confided in Ravi that he was strongly attracted to Rosalind. Meanwhile, Ravi had been silently pining for his friend. Unfortunately for Ravi, Corin moved to Olmenna to take part in an anima research project under order of the Emperor. They left on good terms, but Ravi never told Corin how he felt.

On the subject of attractions, Ravi bears no attraction towards women, but is drawn to men- although he has yet to act on these impulses. He likes men that are shorter than him, with a scrawny build, and really likes men with a sense of humor and blue eyes.

Ravi is also a lover of exotic teas.
